Renewal of registration - Kerala RTO

         Registration certificate of a new non-transport vehicle will be valid for 15 years from the date of its registration. Thereafter the validity of a registration certificate can be renewed for another 5 years which can further be renewed successively for the same periods. Application for renewal of registration has to be filed within 60 days prior to the expiry of the existing validity. Fee for renewal of registration for different types of vehicles is given in the table below. If the application for renewal of license is filed after the expiry of the existing validity of registration, the delay fee and the compounding fee for operating the vehicle without valid registration will also have to be paid.

         The application for renewal of license has to be filed online. Valid insurance certificate, valid pollution under control certificate and self addressed cover with sufficient postal stamps affixed for sending the registration certificate by registered post after renewing it, have to attached to the application. After remitting the fee and clearing the tax dues if any, the vehicle has to be produced before the Assistant Motor Vehicles Inspector for inspection. After inspecting the vehicle, If the vehicle is found  fit for renewal of registration, the application will be entertained and as per citizen’s charter published in motor vehicle department’s official web site the registration certificate will be sent by registered post to the registered owner in the address entered in the certificate of registration within 3 days of inspection of the vehicle.
